One of the breakout films of last year's Cannes Film Festival (and co-winner of the Jury Prize along with the similarly lauded Sirat), Mascha Schilinski's film is a stunning evocation of the lives of four girls over the course of a century of German history.

The film follows four girls - Alma, Erika, Angelika and Lenka - growing up in the same farmhouse across four different time periods. As the four narratives unfurl alongside each other, uncanny echoes between each of the girls' stories emerge as the house starts to slowly reveal its secrets.

Intense, mysterious, demanding and immersive, Sound of Falling is one of the year's richest cinematic experiences.
