An immersive dive into the brief, legendary life of a black lesbian strip club, SHAKEDOWN is one of the essential queer docs of recent years. And most importantly for Gay Sex Tuesdays purposes, it's absolutely filthy as fuck!

The doc takes its name from a lesbian strip club that reigned supreme in a black Los Angeles neighbourhood during the late 90s/early 00s. Owned and operated by women, underground and operating in a legal grey zone, Shakedown quickly earned a dedicated fandom - not to mention the attention of the cops (who, lest we forget, will never pass up a chance to put a lid on radical queer sexuality).

Shakedown made stars of performers like Egypt, Jazmine and Mahogany, and the doc captures the club's style of intense, in-your-face performance (we'll let you imagine for yourself what exactly is being put in-your-face), along with the struggle of Shakedown's impresario Ronnie-Ron to keep the Shakedown dream alive. 

By the way, SHAKEDOWN holds the distinction of being the only film to have streamed on both Pornhub and the Criterion Channel, making this perhaps the most fully-credentialled gay sex art film since Andy Warhol's Blow Job was acquired by MoMa. More please!

GAY SEX TUESDAYS is an occasional screening series dedicated to reviving the lost art of watching hardcore gay intercourse as it was intended: on a large screen, with an audience, and on any day of the week we damn please. Along with landmarks from the golden age of porn, we'll be showing queer arthouse classics and avant-garde erotica - basically, anything beautiful and/or interesting that can offer a couple of hours' escape from the existential boringness of our jobs and our social media feeds.
