In an anonymous Japanese town, Sayoko runs a service renting cats to those in need of some company. Lonely herself, following the death of her grandmother, Sayoko is an expert in matchmaking cats to clients. From a salaryman estranged from his family, to a young woman looking for a partner, Sayoko helps them find solace with their temporary feline friends.

Starring Mikako Ichikawa, and a clutter of adorable supporting moggies, Rentaneko is a touching exploration of loneliness and isolation in modern Japanese society.
