Jackie Coogan stars in his first major film since his break out début starring alongside Charles Chaplin in The Kid (1921). In this comedy drama, set on the busy streets of New York, Jackie Blair (Jackie Coogan) returns to the USA by ship and escapes immigration officials at Ellis Island.

Continuing the theme of the ‘City and Silent Film’ My Boy will be accompanied with a screening of Charles Sheeler and Paul Strand’s city symphony short film Manhatta (1921), a swooping journey across 1920s Manhattan, guided by the lines of a Walt Whitman poem.

This special screening is part of a series of events in collaboration with South West Silents, Bristol Festival of Ideas, Cube Cinema, Curzon Cinema and Arts and Watershed celebrating the films of the Weimar Republic as well as the ‘City and Silent Film’. These two seasons run through September, October and November 2019 as part of the Festival of the Future City 2019.
