A rare UK performance from the French singer-songwriter Laura Cahen.

Inspired by the likes of Laurie Anderson, Laura Marling and Adrianne Lenker, Laura Cahen's music fuses acoustic and electronic to create emotionally rich, self-reflective sonic landscapes. In the form of poetic love songs, she tackles subjects such as womanhood, ecology, homosexuality and equal rights. Her crystalline voice has gathered the praises of major outlets as diverse as Télérama, Les Inrocks and L’Humanité, and she has gained the support of national radio stations France Inter and FIP, who regularly broadcast her music.

Ten years into her career, Laura has toured extensively in France and parts of Europe and America, with over three hundred concerts. Her third studio album, De L’Autre Côté, co-produced together with Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP) and Josephine Stephenson (Ex:Re, Damon Alban, Arctic Monkeys) is released on PIAS in January 2025, with the first two singles Quitter La Ville and Les Astres already play-listed on major radios and streaming platforms. Join her for a rare UK appearance in a light and stripped-down duo with multi-instrumentalist and composer Josephine Stephenson.

'Cahen's almost operatic voice and simple, structured guitar-work
holds the crowd captive.'

Line Of Best Fit

'Cahen's voice sounds tough and vulnerable at the same time... searching and at the same time creating longing.'

Alexander Carson is a non-binary singer-songwriter/composer based in Norwich. Carson first picked up the piano at age four (which is especially difficult considering the weight) and was classically trained, their music reflecting this discipline and sounding like a cross between Chopin and Rufus Wainwright. Inspired by the mundanity of modernity Carson aims to articulate the absurdity of human existence in their music. This is all presented with a surrealist sense of humour to soften the often melancholic timbre of the music. Essentially their music is trying to set one Oscar Wilde quote to music: 'Life is much too important a thing ever to talk seriously about.'

'It rings very true to me... very sad, and very beautiful.'
Guy Garvey (Elbow), BBC Radio 6 Music
