Made entirely from archival footage, Lana Daher’s Do You Love Me is a restless, exhilarating love letter to Beirut and a defiant act of cinematic memory.
In a country with no national archive, Daher reconstructs a collective history from fragments: weddings, dance floors, TV studios, bombed streets, disco tracks and newsreels collide in a non-linear flow that mirrors Beirut itself. Playful, melancholic and politically charged, the film reveals a city where memory, music, humour and resistance survive against the odds.
A bold, beautifully edited collage of a city that refuses to disappear and a rare chance to see this acclaimed new film outside London, presented in collaboration with ICA’s brilliant Off-Circuit strand.
Lana has put together a brilliant index of the images and music featured in the film that you can check out here: https://www.doyouloveme.film/
