Cube Presents

Bring-Your-Own-Skate-Edit

a night of D.I.Y skate films

-
Fri 3 September 2021 // 19:30 (SOLD OUT)

Tickets: £3 (free for filmakers

B.Y.O.S.E is a new film night at the Cube, showcasing the wealth of skating and film making talent in Bristol. It’s an opportunity for the skating community of Bristol, both young and old, to come together and share the edits, clips and films that we’ve been creating on the big screen.

This is an opportunity for YOU to submit your film. It doesn’t matter if you’re a hardened shredder or just starting out, this is an inclusive space for everyone to submit what they’ve been working on – be that a 10 minute edit, some clips of a recent trip, or a film about someone you skate with. Skating isn’t about competition, it’s about collaboration and spurring each other on and whoever you are.  Whatever standard, age, gender, color, religion, sexuality or creed we want you to submit your films.

What you can submit:

The brief is totally open to what you can submit, but it has to be in some ways related to skating. This could be a straight up edit showcasing you and your mates skating, to a film about one of your mates. We’re not going to be judging, so if you think it’s about skating, then we do too.

Films need to be between 1-15 minutes in length and you can find the full submission guidelines below.

After Party

For the after flex (weather permitted), we’ll head down to the Bear Pit and light up the ledge, so BRING YOUR BOARD.

Films: Films for the foreseeable to be sent in before the event. We are going to set the total duration of films to be shown to 90 minutes and once we hit 90 mins worth of films received, we won’t be taking any more films in, but they will be shown first up at the next event we run.

Audience: Capacity is currently limited to 50 people at the Cube and you’ll need to buy a ticket beforehand, sold in groups of two.

Filmmakers: Will have free entry (only one per film we’re afraid) and their names will be on FOH on entry, so Filmmakers there is no need to buy a ticket. And we will confirm when your Film has been included in the Programme, to see if you can make it to the screening. We can arrange to seat you next to someone who is in your household/bubble, if required.

Tickets: Will be a bargain £3.00! There will be no tickets on the door, they will need to be purchased before the event. Tickets will be sold in a maximum of TWO people per each TICKET BLOCK, but we are also putting up a few ONE Person seating options too.
Blocks AA to OO will be available to book (See Cubes show info below for seating plan). Hopefully that all makes sense.

Bar: At the moment The Cube is not running a Bar, due to potential space and congregating issues but you can BYO drinks, until further notice. If you want to drink, you’ll still need I.D though and we’ll be strict on this, so if you look on the south side of 30 bring some form of I.D down.

If any of the above changes, we will of course update you, so keep checking back in to the Cube programme page.

So to the Film Submission….

Submissions are open from Monday the 9th of August up until the 1st of September.

And here’s what you need to do:
Send us your film via WeTransfer to skate@cubecinema.com, headed up ‘September BYOSE’.
And to make things easier for us, the films will need to be in the following format:

  • 15 Minutes and under
  • MP4 only
  • H264 Video Compression
  • File size up to 1GB
  • Data rate under 5,000kb/sec

Ideally the smallest size file you can manage is best for us.

Once you’ve submitted your film, we’ll be in touch to confirm that your film has been accepted and will be screened and to confirm you can definitely attend (we’ll only screen films where the film maker is in attendance).

See you soon.
