Abbas Kiarostami returns to the scene of his earlier masterpiece Where is the Friend's House? with this profoundly moving story of a filmmaker - one who seems to share much in common with Kiarostami himself - making his way through a disaster-scarred landscape.

35 years ago this month, a devastating earthquake hit Iran, leaving 30,000 people dead. One of the villages hit was the community of Koker, the location for Kiarostami's beloved 1987 film Where is the Friend's House?. In the aftermath of the devastation, Kiarostami travelled to Koker to try and discover if the child star of Where is the Friend's House? was still alive.

A few years later, Kiarostami returned to Koker again - this time, with a film crew and a pair of actors, to tell the story of his real-life journey. And the miracle of the film is that, while we see many people who have suffered unimaginable tragedy, what Kiarostami's camera records is life carrying on, with all its beauty, humour and sadness.

And Life Goes On... is considered the second part of Kiarostami's "Koker trilogy" (after Where is the Friend's House?). But the film more than stands on its own, and there is absolutely no need to have seen the earlier film to enjoy (and we predict, love) this one. But we would encourage you to come along to the third part of the trilogy, Through the Olive Trees, on Tuesday 17th June, to see Kiarostami pushing his metacinematic game to ever more dazzling heights...

"A compassionate (but never mawkish or depressing) portrait of courage and determination in the face of overwhelming grief and hardship."
Time Out

"To watch And Life Goes On... — no matter from which vantage point — is to encounter the plenitude of what lies beyond the material limits of the camera... Life goes on, not just in spite of the earthquake, but also in spite of the camera."
Devika Girish, Reverse Shot
