The wife of a factory owner returns from the dead to haunt a vacuum cleaner in Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke’s wildly inventive and wonderfully original film.
After Nat dies, she unexpectedly returns as a vacuum cleaner, determined to reconnect with her husband and prove herself a “useful” ghost, much to the horror of her in‑laws, who assume pulling the plug will solve everything.
Visually striking, haunting and sharply funny, Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke’s genre defying debut blends camp absurdity, political satire and supernatural melodrama into something truly singular. Beneath the film’s deadpan humour and genre‑bending style lies a moving look at Thai history, grief and the complicated ways people remain present after they’re gone.
A Cannes Critics’ Week winner and an instant cult classic.
"A Useful Ghost is an absurd, queer, genre-bender that will leave you belly-laughing, teary-eyed, and utterly mesmerized." — Andrew Pankey, The Queer Review
