This month HFVC are hitting the 1960’s French underground, with a screening of William Klein’s anti-imperialist pop-art mindbender “MR FREEDOM” (1969).

Still highly relevant today, the film follows the titular Mr. Freedom - a bellowing good-ol’-boy superhero decked out in copious football padding, as he jets to France to cut off a Commie invasion from Switzerland. A destructive, arrogant patriot in tight pants, Freedom attempts to combat lefty freethinkers culminating in a star-spangled showdown of kitschy excess. A constant visual delight (no surprise with the photographic pedigree of the director) and a vicious satirical takedown of American foreign policy, this is a rare treat to be shown on the big screen. Soundtrack (and a cheeky filmic appearance) by the legendary SERGE GAINSBOURG means the cineastes and Francophiles are not going to want to miss this!

As always, stick around for more surprises and HFVC DJs spinning psychedelique music in the bar.
