Here to be Heard: The Story of The Slits pieces together the life of the pioneering feminist punk group. Founded in London by four teen girls in 1976, The Slits' distinctly wild take on punk fused dub with guitars and a raucous attitude. Despite being one of the most groundbreaking bands from the punk period, The Slits were largely dismissed by critics in their heyday. Nevertheless, their hell raising on- and off-stage antics, outrageous style and fearless approach to music left an immeasurable influence on a generation of punks and riot grrrls. The film tells the story of the band and the lives of the women involved, from its inception to its end in 2010, coinciding with the death of lead vocalist Ari Up. Through archival footage and interviews with band members and their contemporaries, Here to be Heard: The Story of The Slits offers a rare glimpse at the inner workings of a canonical band.
