Carl has dreamed his whole life of visiting Paradise Falls. One day at the age of 78 he ties thousands of balloons to the roof of his house, and finally sets off accompanied by a young stowaway, Russell - a Wilderness Explorer. 

In South America their adventures really begin when they accidentally discover the mythical Snipe - a huge flightless bird ... and cross paths with the famous explorer Charles F. Muntz and his pack of talking dogs!
