If you missed it, here is another chance to watch the 2016 Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or Winner I, Daniel Blake by critically acclaimed filmmaker Ken Loach. Dave Johns stars as Daniel Blake, a 59-year-old carpenter recovering from a heart attack who is failed by the state welfare system and denied employment and support allowance. After befriending struggling single mother Katie, (Hayley Squires) and her two children, the stubbornly self-reliant Daniel must stand up and fight for his dignity whilst navigating the impersonal benefits system.

This gripping yet heartfelt and humorous film won 23 awards internationally and turned the tide of Britain’s political conversation on social benefits and the welfare system.

Following the film will be a panel discussion and Q&A on social housing and homelessness in Bristol and further afield with Cllr Paul Smith, Jamie Burton (Doughty Street Chambers, 'Just Fair'), David Cowan (Law and Policy, Bristol University), Mike Mills (CHAS Bristol), Ed Mitchell (former Presenter, Broadcaster, Journalist), Peter Durling (The Big Issue) and Richard Drake from the Julian Trust.
