Tonight we are very pleased to host Ogives EP launch party. AKA Ben Harris (ANTA, Iyabe, LEG), Ogives writes an eclectic mix of experimental and psychedelic music, sometimes delving into an abyss of deep sonic noise, other times exploring rich cinematic themes. Tonight we celebrate the forthcoming EP, titled ‘XrmXfrme’. A selection of tunes built around found sounds and previous soundtrack commissions.
Joining him tonight are three local acts and friends of his:
Deej Dhariwal, guitarist from psychedelic legends Thought Forms (Invada Records) creates lush, outerworldly, hymnal compositions fusing vocal drones, tripped out guitar refrains and dark synth textures. His recent release ‘My Father, My Sun’ veers from sheer ambient bliss to violent noise blasts, while passing through cavernous dub excursions and free jazz percussion workouts.
Twin is guitarist and vocalist Christelle from Vena Cava. She lives somewhere between dreams and the uncanniest corners of the waking world. Her pyre built guitars and synths soaring skyward on a flotilla of vocal butterflies, their brightly coloured wings collapsing on freshly etched riffs and centrifugal harmonics. With a musical palette that embraces shoegaze, ambient, North African music and Gothic pop and vocal arrangements that owe a little to dance music; Twin evokes shades of PJ Harvey, Chelsea Wolfe and Fever Ray.
Alex Bertram-Powell (ANTA, Boxcar Aldous Huxley) will tonight be armed with a host of analogue electronic equipment. Creating layers of drones and loops Alex will transport you out of your seat, wrapping your mind in a warm glowing aural bliss.
Finishing off the night we have what has been called ‘The Ogives Big Band’. I have no words to describe this yet as it exists only in the minds of Ben Harris and friends. Tonight however, it will exist in the Cube and in your minds.
