"Have yourself a merry little Christmas …” So sings Esther Smith (Judy Garland) to her little sister Tootie (Margaret O’Brien) in Vincente Minnelli’s endlessly enchanting, luscious Technicolor treat..
Four seasons in the life of the Smith family pass in day-to-day joy and tribulation—from summer 1903 up to the opening of the 1904 World’s Fair. But teen romances, dead dolls, and a dream existence (in a Minnelli-crafted, turn of the century home) are threatened when Mr. Smith announces the family’s imminent move from St. Louis to New York City.
Meet Me in St. Louis is arguably Vincente Minnelli’s masterpiece, Judy Garland’s greatest screen achievement and the very best cure for the winter blues.
“A warmly human entertainment which has captured a nostalgic charm rarely, if ever, equalled on screen”
—The Hollywood Reporter
“An unmissable big-screen experience!”
–Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

To get us in the mood for our February screenings of La La Land, we’ll be offering some sparkling gems of the classic Hollywood musicals of the 1950s and 60s in the Sunday matinee spots. High-kicking off the new year in style will be Singin’ in the Rain, an enduring favourite starring the wonderful toe-tapping talent of Gene Kelly, wholesome cheesecake Debbie Reynolds, and the ultimate legs of Ms Cyd Charisse. Followed by the Sharks and the Jets of West Side Story (spot those Twin Peaks actors in the prime of their youth!), and finally an extra special screening of Silk Stockings preceded by some classic numbers from the Big R Big Band - don’t miss Twinkle Toes Fred and Cyd dance up a storm! http://www.cubecinema.com/programme/view/musical/
