Nightmarish, creepy winter vibes predominate in our final HFVC screening of the year, as we find Susannah York as a children’s writer holed up in the Irish countryside, slowly losing her grip on reality. 

Images, a lesser-spotted flick from unpredictable auteur Robert Altman, is a mesmerisingly trippy ‘going crazy in an isolated house’ psychological mindbender from the golden days of New Hollywood, even though its rural UK setting places it closer in feel to classic Brit horrors such as Symptoms and The Shout. Altman trips on shifting identities/realities with playfully disconcerting ease. A hallucinatory phantasmagoria which lingers in the mind like a half remembered dream. 

Hellfire DJs spinning seasonal musics in the bar. Maybe more surprises…
