Award-winning poet and playwright Inua Ellams’ ridiculous, fantastic, poignant autobiographical immigrant-story comes to The Cube as part of Tobacco Factory Theatres BEYOND, the offsite series taking epic theatre into unique and intimate spaces across the city of Bristol.
Born to a Muslim father and a Christian mother in what is now considered to be Boko Haram territory, in 1996 at the age of 12, Inua Ellams left Nigeria for England. He then moved to Ireland briefly before returning to London and starting work as a writer and graphic designer.
Littered with poems, stories and anecdotes, over the course of an evening, Inua tells his story of escaping extremist Islam, directing an arts festival at his college in Dublin, performing solo shows at the National Theatre, and drinking wine with the Queen of England, all the while without a country to belong to or place to call home.
Running Time: 1hr 30mins (inc. interval)
Age Recommendation: 12+
