support from Gareth Dickson and Jasper Leyland
(Fri 20th / 7.30pm / £5)
Mole Harness returns to launch his second album ‘a present from the future’, following rave reviews and worldwide radio play for his 2004 debut. Mixing layered guitars, endlessly evolving melodic structures and subtle electronic processing, the new work further refines a sound described by Smallfish as “absolutely gorgeous… genuinely magical”. Expect a set of unheard new material, complemented by slide projections from longtime visual accomplice Jonathan Williams.
Gareth Dickson is an entrancing guitar player from East Kilbride, Scotland, whose style mixes perfectly-weighted fluidity with spacious ambient resonance, all intertwined with the occasional hushed vocal line. He recently released an album in Benbecula Records’ ‘Minerals’ series, and also counts the legendary Fat Cat label as fans of his work.
Jasper Leyland is the alias of Norwich-based sound-explorer Jonathan Brewster, whose music combines warm drone structures with playfully rhythmic acoustic manipulations and splashes of field recordings. With an album imminent on Mole Harness’ Stray Dog Army label, and his debut EP praised in The Wire magazine for its “meticulous laptop explorations”, Leyland is a rapidly emerging as an artist to watch. Plus in the bar, an eclectic hotch-potch of records and CDs from Denton Brown.
