As part of Bristol New Music, Bristol electro-acoustic composer John Bence moves to The Cube cinema to present a live electronic reimagining of his new sacred choral piece Ansien, using samples of a performance by celebrated chamber choir Concancenda recorded earlier in the day at St George's. Click here for more information about the earlier concert, and to book.
Ansien is a transformative new music experience that finds sound travelling and morphing in innovative ways. Ways of listening and the distinctions between acoustic and digital realms become reframed and reinvigorated across two of Bristol’s finest venues, as day becomes night across the city. Bence’s unique performance concept is an exploration of how music can be transformed in different contexts, and how electronics can completely redesign recorded sound.
Joining John on the line-up is Ashley Paul, an American performer/ composer currently based in London. Ashley's intuitive process integrates free-form song structures with a focused approach to sound and clatter. A complexity of instruments including saxophone, clarinet, voice, prepared strings, bells and percussion create a delicate palette, uniquely her own. For Bristol New Music Ashley performs as a trio with Ben Pritchard (guitar, voice) and Olan Stephens (guitar, voice, electronics).
