SUPERVIXENS: A RUSS MEYER TRIBUTE
plus THE SCHLA LA LA'S Live!
and THE SUBJECT IS SEX intermission
(Sat 20th / 8pm / £5/4)
Time for a tribute night for the Clown Prince of Curves and the King of Sleaze, Mr. Russ Meyer, who passed into silicon-free heaven in September of this year. He left behind a bizarre auteur vision of big-breasted beauties, warped humour and deranged violence, all wrapped in vintage carny showmanship. Originally a cheesecake photographer, Meyer with $12,000 invented the “nudie-cutie” genre with his first movie The Immoral Mr. Teas (1950), grossing more than a million dollars. The formula would serve him well for over thirty years of filmmaking.
One of his latter efforts and part of the “Vixens Trilogy” is SUPERVIXENS (Meyer / 1975 / USA / 100 mins / 35mm / cert 18), a bizarre ultra-violent roadmovie. In typical Meyer fashion, it features an impotent, psychopathic cop attempting to pin a murder on poor schmoe Clint Ramsey, the husband of one of his female victims. Clint stumbles through the movie getting sexually harassed on all sides by various, voluptuous nymphomaniacs until the literally explosive climax...
Before that The Schla La Las- five girls, four guitars, two drumsticks, one sense of style (and of course matching outfits!) who'll kick you where it hurts, steal your heart and finish off with a fabulous dance routine. A glorious collision of pop noise. Plus more acts to be conFIRMED.
Intermissionary features will include sexual oddities from the Other Cinema DVD release THE SUBJECT IS SEX, exposing some of the far flung deviences into sexual matters that have ascended to pop culture status.
