Crushing and progressive doom, Wrekmeister Harmonies is the brainchild of Chicago's J.R. Robinson, who "perceives life as a long, gradual process of decay." For the third release, titled “Night of Your Ascension” he has gathered a rosta of over 30 musicians, who include Lee Buford and Chip King from The Body, Alexander Hacke (Einsturzende Neubauten), Cooper Crain (Cave), Marissa Nadler, Mary Lattimore, Olivia Block, Eric Chaleff (Bloodiest), Dylan O’Toole and Ron DeFries of Indian, Bruce Lamont, Sanford Parker (Twilight), Mark Solotroff (Anatomy of Habit), Solomon Lee Walker, Chris Brokaw (Come), and Jaime Fennelly (Mind Over Mirrors).

We are very lucky tonight to have a performance by Wrekmeister Harmonies featuring a number of these musicians.

“Night of Your Ascension” is built around a reworking of Gesualdo’s madrigal “Ahi Dispietata e Cruda.” Intrigued by its microtonal qualities,” Robinson re-structured the madrigal so that it could fit modally into the key of A and to extend into the rest of the composition. This includes a haunting and lovely feminine presence voiced by Marissa Nadler, a presence Robinson fades into the ether with a complex arrangement of strings and choral voices before the impending doom renders all hope obsolete.

Supporting we have local talent in the form of Blakk Metal, aka Fat Paul. Lifting and sampling from the blackest metal in the genre then blending it together to form an epic soundscape of nightmare inducing music.

Also tonight we have ANTA, who lay on riffs like seismic plates then throw them around like drunken Gods at a birthday party. These are truly the children of King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Sleep and Isis.

As an extra treat you will get live act/noise creator/noise destroyer duo ORGANCHRIST, who are a Bristol based analogue death drone, tape loop and doom metal experiment in aural terror.

Miss these (mostly) rare performances and the conclusion of The Cubes first Metalplex outing at your peril!
