Rain, rain everywhere… This month’s HFVC plunges deep into the enigmatic eco-horror that is ‘The Last Wave’. Peter Weir's slow-burning and creepy tale of quiet apocalypse.

When a lawyer (Richard Chamberlain) is called upon to defend a group of Aborigines in the dock for killing one of their own in a ritualised murder, he becomes increasingly beset by visions of water and drowning. As the case progresses, he begins to question his own entwinement in the prophetical beliefs of his clients.

Fresh from his classic ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’, director Weir creates a similar uncanny vibe, perfectly capturing a sense of impending doom that defies rational logic via canny dreamstate moves.

Plus, stick around for further premonitory terrors as we follow with another lesser spotted Aussie gem.
