All things bright and beautiful in Cinemascope, Godard’s subversive and suitably self-reflexive foray into 1960s commercial film stars Michel Piccoli as a screenwriter torn between the demands of a proud European director (played by legendary director Fritz Lang), a crude and arrogant American producer (Jack Palance), and his disillusioned wife, Camille (Brigitte Bardot), as he attempts to adapt the script for a new film version of The Odyssey. The film travels from stylish Rome to the breathtaking Casa Malaparte in Capri, as relationships inevitably break down, and the film making process is stripped bare.
