You don’t have to be a sci-fi or a horror fan to love Alien, for it’s impossible to not recognize what a masterpiece of suspense and tension it is. Pitting one of the great sci-fi heroines against some of the most terrifying movie creatures of all time, this brilliantly paced classic follows a space crew as they respond to a distress signal from an unexplored planet. On their journey home they discover that they have been followed by a deadly bioform.

Perfectly cast, perfectly designed (in part by H.R. Giger, who delivered the most terrifying movie monster of all time) and perfectly executed, Ridley Scott slowly creates an atmosphere of dread and escalating terror. Alien is a deep-space shocker that has inspired endless imitations and sequels but has never, more than three decades after its release, been matched.
