(Thu 17th / 8pm / £5)
Moonshine music, campfire songs and shape-shifting sounds from two bands from North America who trip out. Like hooking a modem to a tree and seeing what it sources, this is deep well music from primitive parts but with the hyper-modern age scorching their tails. Soulful, haunted and full of emotion.
On a world tour and with an album on Young God (what a label) the Akron/Family are another band that have bust loose of heaven to spray their rural rockin' strum and jangled rhythm in all directions. Ryan the singer's pure transsexual voice stands out and is eerily powerful when the band join in for harmonious folked out slow jams.
This free association fantastical night is added to by Picastro, who have toured with Mick Turner, Elliot Smith and Herman Dune. Their chamber rock flourishs with Russian folk songs, Greek Rembetika and dynamic, occasionally dissonant string arrangements.
