Dressed As a Girl

Made over five years, this self-styled 'frockumentary' follows a sextet of stars of the East End drag scene, recounting how they became involved in London's alternative drag phenomenon and watching how their lives change during the filming. As Amber embarks on her transition and Scottee finds success with his confrontational one-man shows, Holestar battles against prejudice about women performing drag acts and DJ John Sizzle considers retiring from the scene altogether.

A raucous, riotous spectacular with a killer soundtrack, and an ultimately joyous celebration of a group who have left their glittery mark on the face of East London for all time.

We will also be screening the following short film before the feature

VIS- à-VIS – dir. Dan Connolly (UK/Australia) 16 mins 2013

When a government official comes to inspect Richard and Martin’s relationship for visa approval, it is clear that all is not as it seems. Cue hilarious consequences as the two men will stop at nothing to hide their true identity. Will Martin get visa approval or will things turn out for the worst?.

Before the screenings we'll be serving up some on stage realness from Bristol's queen of in your face alt-drag Dis Charge. Expect a fierce performance inspired by grunge/riot girrl legend Kat Bjelland [Babes In Toyland] followed by an informal short discussion about the politics of drag and gender performance. We'll also be joined by Chris Amos, the producer of Dressed as a Girl.

Afterwards we'll all be sashaying away to the immersive disco Where is Veronix? in the old prison cells at The Island. Ticket holders to DRESSED AS A GIRL get half price entry!
