Wed 23 September 2015 // 20:45
Tickets: £5 full, £4 conc (£8 / £6 for double bill)
Shot over twelve hours in an apartment in NYC, Shirley Clarke interrogates her friend Jason Holliday, aka Aaron Payne, in an attempt to find out who exactly is at the heart of the self-professed hustler, performer and former house boy. An explosive film that blurs the lines between performance and authenticity in bold and dramatic ways, this is one you won't forget in a hurry.
Dancer, bride, runaway wife, radical film maker and pioneer — Shirley Clarke is one of the great under-told stories of American independent cinema. She helped inspire a new film movement and made urgently vibrant work that blurs fiction and non-fiction, only to be marginalized, written out of histories and dismissed as a dilettante. We’re excited to be screening these restored digital prints of her work as part of Scalarama.
Tickets for this double bill of The Connection and Portrait of Jason are only £8/6, this discount will be applied automatically via Ticketsource or on the door.
