Yorgos Lanthimos Double Bill

Sun 27 September 2015 // 20:15

Tickets: £5 full, £4 conc (£8 / £6 for double bill)

As shocking and brutal as it is humorous, elegant and entertaining, Dogtooth is a significant piece of bold and inventive cinema.

Combining the gripping, unpredictable tension of a prime Polanski thriller, the perfectly-executed production design of a Wes Anderson contraption and the freaky-deaky blackly comic absurdity of a David Lynch nightmare, Dogtooth is easily one of the most unique filmic creations of the last few years.

This audacious intoxicating mixture of physical violence and verbal comedy is the story of three teens perpetually confined to their parents’ isolated estate, and kept under strict rule and regimen — an inscrutable scenario suggesting a warped experiment in social conditioning.

Fully utilizing every last inch of onscreen space, Lanthimos paints the blackest of portraits with austere, antiseptic visuals, and elicits a total warped commitment from his entire cast — thus indelibly immersing you into a claustrophobic emotional netherworld never before seen.

"A dysfunctional family drama pitched like a Buñuelian black comedy laced with horror, Dogtooth unnerves with a rigorous focus and technical dexterity that's apt to stun and amaze." Slant Magazine

"A stunning experience that will leave you shaking afterwards." Little White Lies

"There is this. Dogtooth is like a car crash. You cannot look away. The Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos tells his story with complete command of visuals and performances." rogerebert.com
