Awkward high-school student Greg Gaines is determined to get through is senior year with as few attachments as possible. He spends his time remaking spoof versions of classic movies (A Sockwork Orange, Pooping Tom...) with his only friend, Earl.

Concerned about his lack of friends, his mum intervenes, forcing him to befriend Rachel a classmate who's been diagnosed with leukaemia. Both Greg and Rachel are firmly against this forced friendship, but much to their surprise they soon become inseparable, and Greg's world is changed forever.

Peppered with hilarious graphics and enchanting performances from its mostly young cast as well as a great score by Brian Eno, this is an exhilaratingly fresh film about friendship, creativity and mortality as well as being filled with a crazy love of cinema itself. Winner of both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and the US Dramatic Audience Award at Sundance.

"clever, moving and zestily confident fable about friendship and teenage cinephilia." ★★★★ Telegraph

"funny, highly original and very moving too, even if it becomes a little gloopy in its final reel" ★★★★ Independent
