Canadian singer-violist and novelist Waitress for the Bees’ first album was all songs about dinosaurs native to her homeland of Alberta. Her most recent album, Cicadanthem, is all about insects. Her charm, whimsy, haircut, and penchant for gentle absurdism have caused her to be described as “Amelie Poulain with an old suitcase full of futuristic gadgets, a viola and an accordion” and her songs as “melodies that make your heart hurt”. She has played in bands with Peter Gabriel, The Heavy, and Beth Porter, and her novel, Etta and Otto and Russell and James, has recently been published by Penguin Random House.
Singer and pianist Larkhall brings a wondrously deft touch to the Cube’s grand piano. His songs about life and light blend a chamber-music texture (his classical training comes through at times) with pop structures and literate folk lyrics drawing on biblical metaphor, astronomy, and (of course) troubled or strained relationships.
London-based Cajita layers instruments, computers, percussion and voice using an array of loop pedals. A darling of BBC 6 Music, he has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe. Watch his interactive video remix project for the single "Broken Glass".
The Cube is a membership venue. Membership is £1 and lasts for life. Remember to bring your card! If coming for the first time membership is issued on the door.
