Kat (Cobie Smulders) is a health obsessive who can just about outrun a moving vehicle. She's also one of those personal trainers who believes she can change other people's lives, only she needs to get really personal to do it.
Taking on a new, and slightly odd client, Kat gets in over her head. Danny (Kevin Corrigan), a recently-divorced slovenly slacker who has come into a LOT of money needs more attention than most. He has no idea what to do with the cash and spends it in a series of comically misguided ways.
At first, Kat sees Danny as a challenge. But soon their trainer/client relationship gets complicated, with both emotionally and legally dangerous implications.
Meanwhile, her even stranger relationship with boss and uber positive fitness fanatic/life coach extraordinaire, Trevor (Guy Pearce), has hit a rough patch. A lot of running, some snappy dialogue, plenty of low-key social commentary and general hilarity later, everyone seems to be left to question their outlook, expectations and motivations. Turns out there's more to life than just getting results.
Results is Andrew Bujalski's follow up to the brilliant Computer Chess. Surprisingly perhaps, the king of mumblecore has turned his hand to this romantic-ish comedy, funny and moving in equal measure with a lot to say about the often absurd ways in which we strive to improve our lives.
