Thomas is a financially wealthy but time poor businessman, husband and father to a model Swedish family holidaying in the idyllic French Alps. In marriage as in life, he performs his gendered role to perfection; keeping up appearances and toeing the line at every turn. But, when nature intervenes, his poorly constructed facade comes crashing down around him like an avalanche - and the only thing he is man enough to save is his iPhone.
Aside from being completely on the money where gender is concerned, the film also takes on the absurdity of social decorum and class structures with aplomb. The tone is often tense but retains its satiric edge throughout. And there's plenty of eye candy to entertain - the film features a gloriously photographed landscape and a non-stop parade of the classiest thermal undergarments you'll ever see!
Having wowed festival audiences around the globe since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014, where it was awarded the Jury Prize for Un Certain Regard, it's considered a wickedly funny psychodrama that blends the sensibilities of Bergman's SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE and the dry, so-stark-its-painful style stylings of Larry David's CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM
Ruben Östlund's FORCE MAJEURE is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning amalgam of ice-cold drama and observational comedy.
