Featuring a cast of young deaf actors and entirely acted in sign language with no subtitles The Tribe is a visceral cinematic experience like no other.

Deaf-mute Sergey becomes embroiled in the illegal activities of the fearsome gang that rule the specialised boarding school he attends. However, his burgeoning love for a fellow student soon leads him onto a collision course with the gang’s hierarchy.

With explicit scenes of both sex and violence, The Tribe is brutal, unsentimental and undeniably a tough watch but it is a fiercely original and brilliantly executed début, and Slaboshpitsky a real discovery.
