An evening of cool jazz at the cube featuring a screening of Louis Malle's seminal french noir with its iconic Miles Davis Soundtrack.
Listed by the Guardian as a top ten film noir, "Ascenseur pour L'echafaud" was Louis Malle's first feature and stars Jeanne Moreau and Maurice Ronet as criminal lovers in 1950s Paris. Ground-breaking in its fusing of music and image, with Miles' haunting, melancholic trumpet almost becoming a character in its own right, this is one not to be missed.
Bristol Quartet Avellana (Simon Greening-sax, Charlie Wolfin-keyboards, Nick Burrows-bass, Kristian Bressington-drums) will play a live set of "not so standard jazz" pre film and there'll be suitably swinging sounds in the bar courtesy of our resident DJ.
