The Quietus Present:

An English Trip

-
Sun 17 May 2015 // 20:00

Tickets: £6 conc / £7 adv / £9 on the door

An evening of spoken word and music with readings from the book Jolly Lad and incantations concerning murder, black holes, ghosts and regional bus timetables.

Taken from John Doran's MENK column in Vice Magazine, Jolly Lad is a memoir about the recovery from alcoholism, habitual drug use and mental illness. It is also about the healing power of music, how memory defines us, the redemption offered by fatherhood and what it means to be working class.

The evening also features music from space-rock quartet ANTA, 'straddling the line between intricate, carefully considered prog musicianship, brain scorching kosmiche psych explosions and balls-out, sweaty riff worship'.

And from Bronze Teeth, described The Quietus as 'slowly grinding, droning, fizzing rattle has an inexorable energy to it that gradually sucks and teases the energy from deepest recesses into legs and arms'.
