Sound and Chaos is a documentary about the legendary BC Studio in the Gowanus district of New York City and the man who started it all, Martin Bisi. Gaining notoriety for recording Herbie Hancock's Hip-Hop hit 'Rockit', Bisi went on to record with Brian Eno then to capture the sound of New York's emerging No Wave scene in the early 1980s with bands such as Swans, Sonic Youth and Foetus, then the 90s with bands such as Cop Shoot Cop, Live Skull, Unsane and Alice Donut. The film is not just about music however, as the studio is facing being ousted by encroaching gentrification, the film serves as a social document of the changing face of New York City of the last 40 years.
Martin Bisi will be present to give a Q&A about making the film, the history of the studio and its fragile future. Martin will then give a rare performance of his music.
Bisi has recorded and released six albums and EP's of his original work since the late 80s. In the last year he released a CD, Sirens Of The Apocalypse and an EP, Son Of A Gun on Contraphonic.
