THE UNAMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL
(Wed 2nd June / 8pm / £4/3)

Taking it's name from the House UnAmerican Activities Commitee (HUAC), which terrorised the film industry in the 1950's with a witch hunt that blacklisted 'subversive' writers and film makers. The UnAmerican Film Festival showcases short films that offer an alternative to mainstream media, in an era when being a politically active, dissenting American is equated to being an 'enermy combatant'. Since it's beginning as a one-off screening that ran concurrent with the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, it has been invited to dozens of cities worldwide.
A highly impressive selection of political shorts and trailers that will burn the American flag clean off your Ralph Lauren bag. Come see hilarious satires, compelling documentaries, and startling testaments to the bizarre normalcy of America.... see www.unamericanfilmfestival.com for program details.
Festival programmer Esther Bell has recently completed the feature
EXIST- a drama that investigates the underlying motives and feelings of those who live to protest. Festival programmer Ted Passon is a film student who curates for the New York Underground Film Festival.
