Silent Gems from the National Maritime Museum Archive
( Alan Villers 1929-39) 48min
Working in conjunction with the National Maritime Museum , The Cube is proud to screen three rare silent films from the museums Villiers collection.
Arab Dows. Two short films shot in Kuwait in the 1930’s concentrating on Arab sailing vessels, the day to day life of their crews and the people they encounter.
Cape Horn Road. Features a brief history of the filmmaker Allan Villiers and charts The voyage of the barque Grace Harwar as it makes its way from Australia around cape horn bound for England. It shows the officers and crew as they combat foul weather, death at sea, crossing the equator, and a blue whale.
These films offer a fascinating glimpse into the life of seafarers in the past and will be presented in their entirety with an especially composed soundtrack
