7.30pm onward: MOTION PICTURES: Dance film screenings. From the silent movies to the present day, cinema has drawn on innate and stylised body language to communicate both the personal and the universal, and 'dance film' takes this and amplifies it - not as documentation of live dance performance, but working with film and the body to tell stories and
express ideas through a heightened attention to movement. Tonight's
programme begins with a selection of dance film shorts from students on the City of Bristol HND Dance course (based at the Bristol Dance
Centre), followed by Alex Reuben introducing a selection of his work and some of the films that have inspired him, and rounding off with dance films from local artists including Angus Balbernie, Eshoda Arts, Lisa May Thomas and Kyra Norman, in a line-up that includes obscure movement film gems, animation and music promo's alongside commissioned and
broadcast work. Plus DJs tripping the light fantastic in the bar so you get to dance too....
