ARCHITECTURE WEEK
programme 2.
Presented by Office Figaropravada
(Fri 25th / 7.30pm / £6/5)
THE FOUNTAINHEAD + shorts + office party

London based interdisciplinary film production company Office Figaropravda was set up in 2004 by RCA MA Product Design Student, Paul Purgas and
Warp/Arcola/Footwork music artist/DCMS architecture policy adviser, Louis Moreno. OFP's current project is a series of short horror movies, called Tales of Mystery and Imagination - concerning urban development in China, Italian baroque architecture and the current Heathrow Terminal 5
development.

The Fountainhead
(King Vidor / 1949 / USA / B/W / 114 min)

"The most bizarre movie in both Vidor's and Cooper's filmographies. Cooper plays the up and coming architect with unorthodox ideas who dynamites a building that doesn't conform with his plans, marries wealthy heiress
Neal, and winds up building the world's tallest tombstone as a memorial to a friend who committed suicide." (Time Out Film Guide)

also featuring:

Powers of Ten
(Charles and Ray Eames / 1968 / 9 min)

A unique short film from the 20th Century's most influential designers. Powers of 10 is an adventure in magnitudes. Starting at a picnic by the lakeside in Chicago, this famous film transports us to the outer edges of the universe. Every ten seconds we view the starting point from ten times farther out, until our own galaxy is visible only as a speck of light among many others. Returning to earth with breathtaking speed, we move
inward--into the hand of the sleeping picnicker--with ten times more
magnification every ten seconds. Our journey ends inside a proton of a carbon atom within a DNA molecule in a white blood cell.

Following the movies, Paul and Louis will play a load of roughass house, techno, electronic music inspired by the cities of Detroit and Chicago, accompanied by preproduction stills from the OFP shorts. They will also be showing a short isometric exercise workout video OFP has shot for victims of kidnappings.
