To celebrate the 10th anniversary of democratic elections in South Africa we this incredible document of live performance
that pays tribute to the role played by protest songs in the non-violent revolution that brought an end to apartheid. Amandla means power, and it's the power of the songs that helped to free the people.
American music video director Lee Hirsch confidently weaves together archival footage of protests, demonstrations, speeches and funerals together with interviews with musicians (many of them forced into exile, such as Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba and Abdullah Ibrahim) and political activists, to investigate how songs were crucial in resisting the oppression of white government.
