AELITA QUEEN OF MARS re-scored by PROJECT RECALL
(Yakov Protazanov / 1924 / 90mins / cert U)
(Thur 18th / 8pm (film @ 8:30) / £4/3)

This second excursion into the far reaches of the cineverse offers you a classic bit of Sci-fi from the beginning of the Soviet project, with an aesthetic reflecting the CONSTRUCTIVIST ideal.

Adapted from the novel by Alexei Tolstoy, it tells the story of Los, a young Soviet engineer who dreams of going to the (surely not coincidentally) red planet. Aelita is the queen of said planet who, spying our hero from afar, dreams of his arrival.

This movie is from the silent era and hence expects a live score, in the form of a specially commissioned piece from PROJECT RECALL comprising two members of the ongoing Cube micro-project OFF- Adam (AMIS) and Pasternak, along with a young and French Francois. The Ad Astra film club continues to probe the cosmos for evidence of intellegent life and a good time.
