Written and directed by John Carpenter, this fantastically subversive film examines the evils of the media and corporate greed – wrapped up in a story about an alien invasion. It follows a drifter, Nada, who discovers a special pair of sunglasses that reveal the world as it really is… a totalitarian state ruled by aliens posing as humans. We're talking really creepy aliens, with grotesque skulls for faces.
However, it’s not so much the aliens that are the concern here, more the unrestrained mining of the planet's resources by the powerful – a message with real resonance today.
"You see them on the street. You watch them on TV. You might even vote for one this fall. You think they're people just like you. You're wrong. Dead wrong."
