To celebrate the season of good cheer, Hellfire's December offering is John Frankenheimer's criminally underseen Seconds, from 1966, one of the most cerebral and visually stunning films of the decade.
Featuring plenty of hallucinatory camerawork and shot in high-contrast black and white, this is a feast for the senses, depicting the emerging psychedelic counterculture like nothing else from the era.
Arthur Hamilton (Rock Hudson) is a middle-aged banker who receives a call one night from an old friend he thought was dead. He's given the address of a company who can fake his death and give him a new dream life as a 'reborn', in his case a Californian artist. However after his transformation Hamilton struggles with his new bohemian lifestyle of wild Dionysiac parties and hankers after his old life. He contacts the company to ask for another new life, but they have other plans for him...
Hellfire DJs will be amping up the hallucinatory experience spinning 60s psych oddities in the bar.
