The Spanish were making stylish and well-crafted horror films decades before the likes of The Devil's Backbone and The Orphanage. As a (very) early Halloween offering, HFVC presents a night of the finest Hispanic horror from the 60s and 70s.
First up is atmospheric and influential 1969 chiller La Residencia (aka The House That Screamed), the tale of a boarding school for wayward girls that becomes a cauldron of vice and murder. The strict headmistress runs a brutally harsh regime that punishes any girl who steps out of line. She also has to keep one eye on her teenage son, who likes nothing more than spying on the girls in the shower. Five girls disappear from the school over different nights; have they run away? Or is there a far more sinister reason?
To follow, we have a twisted tale of revenge set in the beautiful countryside of Galicia.
In the bar, Hellfire DJs will be assaulting your ears with long-lost vinyl oddities.
