Hellfire Video Club Presents Hypnagogic Horror Double Featuring 'things'

(Friday 8 November, 8pm. £5/4)
For this month's Hellfire we're delving into the foggy, often confusing hinterland of hypnagogic shot-on-video films. In the early 80s, filmmakers found themselves no longer at the mercy of powerful distributors and studios – affordable video technology meant any sex-pest or backyard-oddball could realise their vision… and self-release it onto the unsuspecting public.
We're super excited to bring a double-bill of these highly potent slices of outsider art to the big screen! Our main feature is Canuxploitation classic Things (Barry J. Gillis, 1989) – an intoxicating mess of monsters, sandwich making, unrelated news reports and confusion.
Our warm-up film is as singularly demented, also having the honour of being the first SOV film to be released in Stateside theatres back in 1982.
This double-bill will flip a switch in your brain – once witnessed, it may be difficult for you to tune in to normal multiplex culture again…
In the bar, HFVC DJs will be playing a woozy, synth-heavy selection of half-tunes and unpop.
