(Carlos Reygadas / 2012 / Mexico / 120 minutes / Cert 18 / subtitles)
This is the forth and most overtly experimental feature from Carlos Reygadas, winning him the best director prize at Cannes. It tells the
semi-autobiographical tale of urban Jose and his family living in rural Mexico. With little linear narrative it presents a series of unforgettable and striking images filmed in Academy 1:33 ratio. In exterior scenes a bevelled lens refracts and distorts the edge of the frame. Captivating and baffling it is a cinema of sensations that belongs on the big screen and demands repeat viewings.
