For this month’s HFVC we’re back in the bleak and slightly grubby climes of late seventies England. Something strange is happening in the commuter belt - aliens have landed and are trying to pass themselves off as humans! But the time and place they’ve picked might well be as weird as they are.
In ‘Prey’, freshly landed man/alien in disguise ‘Kator’ has stumbled into an isolated, rambling mansion inhabited by a lesbian couple in the midst of a somewhat dysfunctional relationship. Initially stranger Kator poses an intriguing diversion to the unhinged psychological power games on display, but it soon becomes apparent that behind his blank and confused veneer lie more sinister intentions… An under heralded wonk-fest from the tail end of the seventies Brit horror boom, ‘Prey’ exudes a unique vibe that’s chock full of queasy oddness.
Stick around afterwards for a fondly remembered extra-terrestrial classic from the age of the video nasty, that plays something like the deranged fantasies of a disturbed child.
In the bar, Hellfire DJs will be serving up choice slices of cosmic psych, alien funk and wacked-out synth gunk.
