Sorry - the Weds workshop event is cancelled.
(Wed 13th March / 1pm - 3.30pm / refreshments provided / £15)
This is a great opportunity to work with designer-makers Kevin Dennis and Sylvia Zidek from Spoke'n'Chain in the creative exploration of narratives that is Kamishibai; traditional Japanese picture storytelling. You will gain practical ideas about using Kamishibai resources and session ideas that can be delivered as part of the curriculum or anywhere storytelling takes place.
The Kamishibai workshop will inspire teachers, play workers and librarians to creatively explore the idea of the Kamishibai storytelling and it's impact on learning, both as an entertaining medium and as a powerful pedagogical tool.
The session/s will explore how to develop multiple narratives and hands-on approach to engage young children through:
-narrative techniques
-sequential drawing and storytelling
-ideas for transforming stories
-the opportunity to create a story in detail
A Kamishibai storyteller would typically ride on a bicycle from town to town and tell stories using picture cards in a small theatre on his bicycle. It became especially popular from the 1920s to the 1950s and developed out of a
combination of traditional picture storytelling forms and a national infatuation with silent film, which was actually narrated in Japan, and so Kamishibai took on the characteristics of silent film dialogue and stage set aesthetics.
