Willem Dafoe is in his element as Martin, a mercenary sent by a biotech company to the beautiful Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for the last Tasmanian tiger. Dafoe's character is no eco warrior and finds himself in a moral no man's land between the local pro-logging rednecks and his host Lucy, a single mum whose ecologist husband is missing presumed dead. Dafoe's character is thawed by Lucy and her children but he's a man on a mission, even though his prey may be a figment of the imagination and there are those who have him in their sights.
